The clay mining has brought special life forms in and around the clay
ponds in the terrain. When Zevenaar received city rights in 1487, there
was already a staate stone furnace. Nijmegen already bought tiles in 1538 in Zevenaar.
In the 17th and 18th the rest of the Liemers (the area around
Zevenaar) began baking bricks and tiles.
From the 19th century,
more stone plants were built around Zevenaar, including Panoven in 1850. This has
had many owners in the early phase. The father of Wim
Kruitwagen was the boss from 1921 and in 1930 he bought it. A tradition of
baked products has been in this family for almost three centuries.
In
1982 the fire was extinguished by Wim Kruitwagen in Panoven.
Owners Erna and Wim Kruitwagen have preserved the heritage and the old
craft experience is available in the form of day tours and holidays, wedding
location and restaurant, in combination with the first Dutch brick and tile
museum.
